Introduced by Leyland in 1948, the PD1 quickly established itself in many
bus fleets across the country, including London Transport, eventually
replacing the pre-war Leyland models.
This particular version is in the Alexander red livery reserved for Perth

EFE Leyland Tiger/ Duple in Western SMT red and cream dual-purpose Livery.
Examples of Duple coachwork were rare within Western. Few were bought
as new coaches whilst other Duple-bodied vehicles were absorbed into the
fleet through Western's acquisition of smaller bus undertakings. This
pre-war Tiger would have lasted in the Western fleet until the mid 1950's
and is typical of the many half-cab coaches which served with the Company
in the immediate pre and post-war periods.
